課程目標
This course helps students to understand in a broad way the general concepts of chemistry and their applications. The specific objectives of the course are as follows:
☑ to become familiar with the various underlying chemical principles that shape our physical world
☑ to develop an understanding of the theories upon which the principles of the chemical processes occurring in our daily lives are based
☑ to direct the focus of learning on the development of chemical concepts via analysis of experimental observations, deduction of logics, and careful reasoning
☑ to train minds to visualize molecular events and interactions
☑ to understand the correlations among the chemical reactivity, chemical force, and the molecular structure
☑ to apply basic chemical concepts to understanding the formation and transformation mechanisms of substances
☑ to learn how fundamental chemical ideas help advance the understanding and treatment of major real-world problems in materials, environment, and medicine today
☑ to understand the limitations and strengths of chemical approaches
☑ to develop the ability to distinctively apply chemical principles for the enrichment of life
☑ to gain skill and competence in the use of chemicals and in performing chemical experiments
☑ to develop chemical perspective on life events and phenomena

課程要求
☻Make-up exams will not be permitted to those who miss the midterms or the final. Do not take this course if you have a class/activity schedule that is in some way in conflict with our class and exam schedules.
☻Listening to lectures and participatory attendance are essential to successful mastery of course material. Although the attendance will not be monitored daily, it is suggested that you do not take this course if you cannot come to the class.
☻Handouts are given only in the current class session.
☻Taking notes during lectures is an important skill for students’ life-long educational careers. Students should thus keep class notes.
☻Photography and videotaping of any form are not allowed in the classroom. Cell phone use is also forbidden.
☻ The NTU policies on cheating will be enforced.
